What is SIERISSA?
"A platform where thoughts are posted, ideas visualised, and creativity flows. This space promote & encourages diversity, self-love, art, and life."
Hi, my name is Sel and I make videos whenever I feel like it and today—oh wait, this isn't my YouTube channel?
Just kidding. My name is Selena Soemakno and I thought that joke was hilarious as I was typing it. Life is short so I'm not going to waste time deleting it. We'll cringe about it later. The excerpt in bold you read above that intro was something I wrote when I first started this blog as a senior in High School, all the way in Indonesia, amidst all of the International Baccalaureate Diploma and graduation drama. And to be real with you, my definition for SIERISSA has yet to change.
Flash-forward to today, I'm currently based in the Netherlands as a senior in university (that's wild to realise). Before I was able to write my thoughts about the world through my ranty essays as an Arts and Culture student, I needed a creative outlet. It also didn't hurt that this was something of a digital portfolio where I could showcase theories and discussions within the creative world I'd recently learned.
Since I was young, I always imagined myself writing for a lifestyle or fashion magazine, talking about the latest trends and the things that I think are important in life, without the the excessive encouragement of consumerism. I wrote drafts upon drafts, until finally realising I could do this for myself, under my own brand name. Thus, SIERISSA was born. After plucking up the courage to create a fully-functioning YouTube channel in high school, I've branched out to blogging to share my writing with the internet.
I had no issue defining this blog, but I do find trouble encapsulating who I am in a few words. Maybe it's all of the one-dimensional female protagonists I grew up looking up to (just a little gender studies joke for you), or maybe there's just so much of this world to love, so why settle for limiting boundaries? On this blog, you'll find open journal entries, politics, fashion trends, beauty finds, all things media, art, culture, travel, food and other random bits and bobs I might find interesting to shed light on. I hope you enjoy your stay here at SIERISSA.
