Skin care is something that I feel very passionate about. I've had acne-prone skin since I hit puberty and I've been struggling with moisturising without going overboard ever since. Luckily, after a few years, I finally feel like I've curated a skin care routine that does the job for my skin aka fights it until it finally allows me to be happy. Sure, I still have bad days, but these products make them a little less horrendous.
A lil disclaimer before we start: these are all my personal opinions, and products that work for my skin. I am in no way saying that these products will work for everyone, and I'm definitely not saying that you need all these products in order to have clear, well-moisturised, healthy skin.
Bamed is a skin care clinic located in Dharmawangsa Square, Jakarta. After having a friend suggest Bamed to my mom and I, we were eager to try it out. Prior to this clinic, I went to Erha for my main skin care products. Prior to Erha, I went to Natasha. I've only been using Bamed for over a month but I can say that I definitely see a lot of improvements in the amount of blemishes on my face. It was a struggle to get this point, since these skin care brands always seem to make your skin flake off, but so far so good.
It's definitely not priced at your average drug store skin care products. Although, I wouldn't say it's very different from Erha's prices. Not everyone needs to go to clinics where they meet dermatologists who prescribe specific products for skin, although I definitely find that it helps maintains my skin way way better than drugstore products. So, to me, it's worth the spend.
In case you were wondering, I have the face wash, moisturiser, toner/lightening face lotion for blemishes and body acne lotion.
2. Neutrogena's oil-free acnee moisturiser
If you have more stubborn acne but don't want to spend a large amount of money on skin care, I highly recommend this product as an alternative to dermatological clinics like Bamed. Neutrogena not-so-recently came out with a line of salicylic acid based products with a pink grapefruit boost that makes them smell like Bath and Body Works lotion instead of acne skin care products. They have a whole line of different soaps, moisturisers and toners but I chose the Oil-Free Acne Moisturiser. The product was cheap, lightweight (which is great since it lets you get on with your daily activities after), smelled great, and actually combatted my acne, which no other drug store product has done before.
3. C.O Bigelow's Rose Salve
If you're a fan of all-purpose salves like Papaw, Vaseline, or Glossier's Balm Dotcom, but want a lighter formula, then this salve is for you. Papaw and Vaseline are great for ultra hydration on any area you need. Although, sometimes, it can feel a little heavy because of their dense and waxy textures and you feel like your skin is never going to fully absorb all that moisture. C.O. Bigelow's Rose Salve has a much thinner formula (which smells amazing!!) that just glides against your skin. It's perfect for mornings when you don't really have time to wait for the products on your face to really sit and do its thing, especially if you want to hydrate your face.
I love putting it on my lids, lips, and the highest point of my cheekbones for a dewy highlighted look to start the day.
4. Marc Jacob's Daisy Perfume
You guys. I love this perfume so much. So so much. I've been wearing it for more than 2 years now and every time I have it on, I always get a compliment. It has a soft, barely-there, fresh and floral scent that's so light, people will think it's the remnants of your nicely scented shampoo and soap. You'll never get bored of it, and it's perfect for every occasion. Marc Jacobs has released a line of Daisy perfumes since then including Daisy Dream, Daisy Sunshine and Daisy Delight, but I definitely prefer the original one over all the rest.
5. OGX's Coconut Oil MIST
This product claims to be nourishing, lightweight, hydrating, and boy are they right. It's not a secret that coconut oil is one of beauty's top natural must-haves. Virgin coconut oil is great for skin, hair, internal consumption, and removing make up. Although, much like Vaseline compared to C.O. Bigelow's Rose Salve, virgin coconut oil can feel a little bit too heavy for morning. OGX's coconut oil is a mist infused with bamboo, so it's very lightweight and a spritz or two before your day or after you wash your hair is enough to make your hair look healthy and shiny, while keeping it smelling amazing all day.
OGX is an all-natural hair care brand that is a bit more on the pricier side compared to brands like Pantene or Herbal Essence. Although, I must say that the quality is totally worth the price. Plus, they sell it in Indonesian drug stores and supermarkets.
6. Lush's Grease lightning
This Lush product is a "gentle herbal infusion of thyme, tea tree, and rosemary" blended into aloe vera gel and grape juice, creating a super light cleansing texture. It's great for spot treatments to soothe and get rid of pimples. The tea tree gives your skin a cool tingly feeling and it's also great for acne scarring. Lush is well known for their skin care and bath products. But if you're looking for some actual skin care products that will make a different for your acne-prone skin, I highly recommend this gel. Definitely worth the price.
7. Maybelline's Baby Lips Color in Berry Crush
It's safe to say that Maybelline is my favourite drug store brand, and this lip balm does not disappoint. As you can see from the picture at the top, this product is so well loved that most of the packaging has rubbed off. When waking up early in the morning for your daily activities, you're bound to look a little puffy and pale. To bring some colour back into my face, I use this lip balm on my lips and rub some on my cheeks. The colour matches my skin tone perfectly as it gives my face a healthy and natural flush.
8. Rituals' Honey Touch Body Cream
After finishing my second bottle of Body Shop's vegan Coconut Oil Body Milk, I decided to give another body lotion a go. This one was gifted to me, and I was a bit skeptical to use it in the morning (in fear of a too-thick, too-sticky formula) at first but since I had such a huge pot, I thought I might as well. Now that I have, I really like it. Honey, just like coconut oil, is one of the greatest natural body moisturiser and brightener. It's also infused with rose, and y'all already I know I love the smell of roses. Although, I can't say I'll buy another pot of this once I'm done with it, seeing as I love the coconut scent from my old morning body lotion. However, this does have the same lightweight, non-sticky, fast-absorbing formula that doesn't make your body feel gross after sweating a little. It also smells really good!!
Comment below what products your morning routine consists of, I'd love to see your suggestions! Or, if we have some products in common, tell me why you love it too!
